Rapper and actor Heavy D, born Dwight Errington Myers, died in a Los Angeles hospital today of unknown causes. He was 44. Heavy D burst onto the music scene in 1987 with Living Large, followed by platinum albums Big Tyme and Peaceful Journey; his 1994 album Nuttin’ But Love also went platinum. His most famous song was probably “Now That We Found Love,” but he also recorded the theme song to In Living Color and is featured in a remix of the Janet Jackson son “Alright.” Later in his career, Heavy D turned to acting, with recurring roles on shows like Roc, Boston Public, The Tracy Morgan Show, and Bones, and films like The Cider House Rules, Step Up, and Tower Heist.
