Spirit Moves Mendes Eva Mendes joins the cast of Frank Miller’s feature-length directorial debut of Will Eisner’s The Spirit in the role of Sand Saref, described as “a beauty with dangerous curves.” As an experiment, Mendes will play the role while in a coma and locked in the trunk of a car. [HP]

Dude, We’re So Not in Kansas Anymore: Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow will team up to produce Oz, a revisionist version of the L. Frank Baum series that inspired The Wizard of Oz. The new series was initially inspired by co-creator Todd McFarlane’s line of reimagined Oz toys, featuring a “bondage queen” Dorothy and Toto rendered as an “oversized snarling warthog.” Nothing in this item is made up. Oh, Brothers: And the creamy Disney–Tim Allen comedy goodness (The Santa Clause, Wild Hogs) keeps on coming as Allen commits to co-write and star in Brothers, a comedy about a pair of racially mixed adopted brothers who must put aside their differences to clear their names. Allen and co-writer Matt Caroll will begin work on the script as soon as Allen finishes filming the teaser trailer, in which he and Martin Lawrence run down the street comically bickering with their ankles chained together. No Stopping Jason Isaacs: Jason Isaacs, best known as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, Captain Hook in the 2003 Peter Pan, and the guy who killed all of Mel Gibson’s kids in The Patriot, joins the cast of the John Cusack thriller Stopping Power in the role of the villain. As an experiment, Isaacs will perform the role while asleep, with both hands tied behind his back. [HR]

2007’s Grumpiest Tour? Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello bring sexy back as they join forces for a thirteen-date tour this fall. Promoters are seeking venues with particularly large mosh pits and extra security in anticipation of fan violence. [Billboard]
