According to Spike Jonze’s younger brother, music producer Sam Spiegel, who confirmed it in an e-mail to music blog The Playlist, banshee-voiced Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman Karen O is writing “pretty much the whole” soundtrack to Jonze’s forthcoming film version of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. Needless to say this excites us to no end, since we’re fans of O, have high hopes for Wild Things, and love single-artist soundtracks in general (minus Prince’s one for Batman, even though it had its moments).

What will it sound like? We have no idea, but we can’t wait to find out. If there’s one contemporary musician we can trust to cover the full range of innocently childlike to howling monster-beast (and not in an affected, Jack White way) — like we’d imagine Wild Things’ soundtrack demands — it’s her. We might even buy this CD.
