Variety reports this morning that production has resumed on The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Terry Gilliam’s fantasy film that was interrupted by the death of its star, Heath Ledger. As reported earlier, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, and Colin Farrell are replacing Ledger in the film; as the plot revolves around a magic mirror that transports Ledger’s character into other worlds, the three actors will play transformed versions of Ledger in fantastical sequences. Though the whole idea of this film still strikes us as maybe a little too Terry Gilliam–y, we’re pretty fascinated to find out how this grand experiment turns out — and grateful that Ledger’s final performance will make it to the screen.

This is all assuming that a thousand hurricanes and a plague of locusts don’t destroy Gilliam’s set sometime today, of course. Which is always a possibility.
