Wahlbergs Compete for Today’s Worst Performance

Yesterday, in a sterling early review of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, an anonymous Internet critic called Mark Wahlberg’s work in the film “the worst performance I’ve ever seen in anything.” Today, 20th Century Fox released the above two-minute clip of the movie, which more or less confirms the validity of that assertion. To be fair, it’s probably Shyamalan’s fault and not Wahlberg’s, as all of the acting in this video is pretty terrible; even the usually excellent Zooey Deschanel sounds like she’s drunk and reading from cue cards.

But, if you can believe it, Wahlberg’s is not the worst performance making the rounds on the Internet this morning — it’s not even the worst performance by a Wahlberg! A few hours ago, Mark’s brother Donnie, along with the recently reunited New Kids on the Block, sang (and danced, sort of) on the Today show, and, as much as it pains us to say it, it was pretty awful. Still, as die-hard NKOTB fans, we’ll point out that there is still plenty of time for them to practice before their upcoming fall tour, or, failing that, time to lay down pitch-corrected vocal tracks in the studio so they can lip-synch (either way, we bet their concerts will still be better than The Happening). See them mangle “Hangin’ Tough” and “Step By Step,” after the jump!
