‘Boeing Boeing’ Closing in January, Like Everything Else on Broadway

In unsurprising but still kind of sad news, Playbill reports that Boeing Boeing, which won the 2008 Tony for Best Revival of a Play, will close on January 4. Unlike some of its peers, however, the show actually recouped its initial investment, thanks in no small part to Mark Rylance's hilarious Tony-winning performance as a befuddled midwesterner. "We chose to close the show when the current cast members' contracts all expired and to end on a high note rather than forge through the challenges of January and February in a weak economy," explained producer Sonia Friedman. She did not add: "Also, everyone else was doing it, so we figured, what the hell?" [Playbill]
