Dark Knight Gets Rerelease, James Cameron Trembles

Quick, someone hide the pottery wheel!

Finding itself just a measly $3,772,664 short of the $1 billion worldwide box-office plateau, Warner Bros. has announced plans to rerelease The Dark Knight into U.S. theaters on January 23, 2009 (yes, fanboys, it’ll be on IMAX, too). Aside from the obvious goal of building buzz in the critical last stages of the 2009 Oscar campaign, there’s an additional upside on both the financial and PR fronts; Titanic’s spot atop the list of all-time US box-office grossers is now within spitting distance, threatening James Cameron’s self-appointed title as “King of the World.” [BBC]
