Mamet Kills Buffalo

Ann Lislegaard’s Crystal World (2006).

For American Buffalo’s early close, some blame its badness, others cite the economy. Michael Riedel today posits that it was all Buffalo playwright David Mamet’s fault: “He never attended a rehearsal, didn’t see a performance and refused to do any press for it. He met the stars … but when he was asked if he’d be photographed with them, he balked.” Meanwhile, he was “hanging out with the cast of Speed-the-Plow over at the Barrymore” and praising their show in a Times editorial. What’s up with that? “It’s long been rumored that he makes very little money from American Buffalo.” [NYP]
