According to statistics heroically compiled by Waxy.org's Andy Baio, DVD screeners for all but three of the movies nominated for Oscars this year have leaked to the internet: Australia, Changeling, and Rachel Getting Married. Of those three, though, only Rachel (which was hailed by New York's David Edelstein as 2008's best film) has failed to appear online in some other form — which means pirates were so put off by Jonathan Demme's Anne Hathaway–starring wedding drama that they didn't even bother to shoot a camcordered version. What was the problem? Would the film's nontraditional soundtrack have sounded bad on computer speakers? Did they think the cinematography was already Cloverfield-y enough?
