Charge Against Chris Brown ‘Kinda Weak’ As He Heads in for More Questioning

As we enter day four of the Chris Brown–Rihanna mess, different stories are emerging as to what kind of charges the L.A. County district attorneys are going to be able to level against Brown, as well what kind of jail time he could be facing. The New York Daily News is reporting that the LAPD is set to reinterview both Brown and Rihanna sometime this week and that they are aiming to get the case back to prosecutors sometime next week. However, as we have come to expect in this case, there are differing reports in the media as to where exactly Chris Brown is at this moment.

According to Roger Friedman of Fox News, Brown is “stuck in Los Angeles” and is passing time at his house while waiting for further police questioning. However, E! News claims to have learned that Brown is holed up in a suite of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, regardless of where (or even when!) Brown is at the moment, TMZ is on record saying that law-enforcement officials have told them that “Chris Brown may have gotten lucky because the charge he was booked on is kinda weak.” Meaning, Brown is more likely to face felony domestic-battery charges than the more serious criminal-threat charges. But MediaTakeOut thinks that TMZ might have it wrong, citing that “under California law, Chris Brown CAN NOT be charged with domestic battery. That’s because the domestic battery law only applies to ‘a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former co-habitant, or the mother or father of his or her child.’” They seem to think that Brown will be charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum six-month jail sentence.

Stay tuned.
