Woody Allen made seven funny movies over twelve years before getting serious with the Bergman-y Interiors. Judd Apatow, however, has comedy-making elves like Adam McKay (Step Brothers, Anchorman) and Greg Mottola (Superbad) to whom he can outsource all of his sillier ideas. So, just four years after The 40-Year-Old Virgin, for his third project as a director, he brings us the hilarious-sounding Funny People, which stars Adam Sandler as a comedian dying of cancer. As this new trailer makes clear, though — SPOILER! — he's cured partway through, so at least this won't end on a down note. People still looks like it might strike the same balance between funny and serious that Apatow's two previous movies have, but you should probably expect to cry at his next one.
