Extended Land of the Lost Trailer Is Somewhat Concerning

When the 30-second teaser for Will Ferrell's Land of the Lost debuted online last weekend in advance of the Super Bowl, the film-blogger community kind of lost its shit about the "bad blue-screen removal" in the spot. Unfortunately, after seeing the brand-new two-and-a-half minute trailer, blue-screen removal appears to be the least of this film's issues. After spending an agonizing 52 seconds on the set of the Today show with Matt Lauer (tough to see this bit aging well), viewers are plunged into an ancient world that looks visually impressive but also emotionally sterile, especially when compared to the glorious kitschiness of the Sid & Marty Krofft original. Still, we hold on to a sliver of hope that the comedically gifted cast (which also includes Danny McBride and Jorma Taccone) will able to make some magic happen from what appears to be a creatively iffy premise.
