One does not reasonably expect movie stars on the red carpet at the Academy Awards to name-drop books by Canadian music critics, but that's what happened last night when a reporter from MTV asked James Franco about his favorite guilty pleasures on television. After politely explaining that, due to schoolwork, he doesn't watch enough television to provide an informed answer, the well-read actor enthusiastically endorsed Let’s Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste, Carl Wilson's excellent book in the 33 1/3 series about Celine Dion, and probably single-handedly raised its sales ranking on Amazon.com. Akerman’s films are largely about space, time, and, I’d venture to say, a particularly feminine sense of isolation, displacement, and ambivalence.
