Mysteries of Pittsburgh Could Probably Use More Mystery

Tagline: “Sometimes life leads you to the most mysterious places.”

Translation: Apparently Pittsburgh is more mysterious than you ever imagined.

The Verdict: Get your Swiffer ready, because this one is a little bit dusty. This adaptation of Michael Chabon’s first novel first debuted at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and has been sitting on the shelf ever since. Starring Sienna Miller, Peter “SARS Guards” Sarsgaard, and former Abercrombie & Fitch–catalogue model Jon Foster, the film’s production is perhaps best known for the time Miller dismissed Pittsburgh as “Shitsburgh” during an interview with a Rolling Stone writer. As for the film itself, it looks to be a pretty standard coming-of-age tale, albeit one where the main character swaps spit with both boys and girls. If the premise of post-collegiate sexual exploration feels like it would’ve been more boundary-pushing twenty years ago, well, that’s because Chabon’s book was first published in 1988. Sad to say, but we think we’d rather re-watch our DVD of Wonder Boys instead.
