David Simon Saves Newspapers

As usual, Wire creator David Simon has a plan to ensure the future of American journalism. In the new Columbia Journalism Review, he calls on the New York Times and Washington Post to announce together, and immediately, that, on a specific date ("let's say September 1"), both papers' websites will be free only to subscribers. And if the Justice Department asks, they can say it wasn't collusion — they both just got the idea from David Simon. Problem solved! [CJR]
