How did the beleaguered Weinstein Company win the "all-night" three-studio "bidding war" for designer Tom Ford's A Single Man, following its screening in Toronto on Monday night? According to Nikki Finke, it was easy, since no bidding war actually took place (Summit Entertainment and Focus Features had reportedly both dropped out of negotiations by 1:30 a.m.). Also, says Finke, Harvey was able to convince Ford to part with Man for just $2 million and his "passionate insistence that he would deliver Ford 'an Oscar.'" We hope Ford doesn't mind if it has Kate Winslet's name on it.
