In accordance with a law requiring that all new reboots be darker, slicker, camp-eschewing takes on their original source material, and with a nonnegotiable focus on the primary character’s twisted psychology, the Michael Bay–produced, Jackie Earle Haley–starring Nightmare on Elm Street remake seems to be a darker, slicker version of Wes Craven’s 1984 Nightmare, exploring in greater depth the tragic backstory of a more serious, less jokey Freddy Krueger. Also, as you’ll see in the last shot of this new trailer, advances in dermatological plastic surgery these past 25 years haven’t done much for victims of angry-mob-ignited warehouse fires, as Freddy’s face looks different but still totally gross.
