Solange and New York Agree On at Least One Thing

Are you still boldly resisting the Dirty Projectors bandwagon, even in the face of New York’s front-page endorsement and a general avalanche of critical acclaim? You are now, we’re afraid, officially powerless to do so — even Solange likes them! Beyoncé’s kid sister has flipped the DP’s “Stillness Is the Move” over a “Bumpy’s Lament” sample (it’ll be quite familiar once you hear it) and the result is pretty freakin’ cool: The new smooth-soul backdrop is a seamless fit, and Solange effortlessly manages to go diva-to-diva with Amber Coffman’s scale-busting original take, even adding a bit of weirdo vocal tics for good measure. The hidden benefit: the long-shot possibility that Solange will convince her brother-in-law to swap the Alphaville samples in favor of some “Useful Chamber” for Blueprint 4.
