Metropolis Sucked Before Superman Showed Up

There's plenty to enjoy on The Comics Journal's new beta site, including the return of take-no-prisoners Japanese-culture genius Anne Ishii, but we would be remiss if we did not call your attention to "Metropolis in the Old Days," a hilarious bit of prehistory from R. Fiore. What was it like to live in Metropolis before Superman came to town? "We didn’t call them super-villains back then, we called them assholes. As in, 'Did you see what that asshole Brainiac did to the Corn Exchange?'... I remember the first time I saw the headline 'Superman Rescues Orphans.' It was like reading 'Leaves Fall Up This Year.' Up until that time I’d never thought of orphans as something that could be rescued." [Comics Journal]
