Using a highly scientific method that combines performance on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, Billboard has put together a list of the “Artists of the Year.” Like just about every other music related award of 2009, Taylor Swift won! Swift’s credentials include selling more albums this year than anyone who didn’t die on June 25 and, more importantly, proving “herself a graceful, timeless celebrity.” Beyonce, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas and Miley Cyrus fill out the rest of the top five and Kanye West, whose biggest moment of the year came at the expense of poor Taylor, is the first solo male artist on the list at number six. The rest of the top 20 includes the usual suspects (Pink, Kelly Clarkson), but it does not include Anvil. We’re guessing they were number 21.
