Karen O’s Wild Things Score Ruled Ineligible for Oscar by Jerks

Like other excellent ones before it, Karen O's score for Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are has been ruled ineligible to compete for the Best Original Score Oscar. Unlike Brian Eno and T-Bone Burnett — whose scores for Lovely Bones and Crazy Heart were also disqualified today — she and co-writer Carter Burwell had submitted the necessary paperwork and everything. But the grinches in the Academy's music branch were not appeased, because O's score "makes substantial use of music from songs that were written for the film." Lame! [Wrap]
