Public-Interest Groups Complain to the Government About Comcast/NBCU Merger

A big group of public-interest organizations, all pissed about the Comcast/NBCU merger, sent a letter to the president and Congress today asking the government to take a “hard look at this merger and take the necessary measures to prevent harm to both consumers and competition.” The group says it has “grave concerns” that the new company will lead to a media environment with little competition and high costs.

In a response to the letter, a Comcast spokeswoman said the group is full of a bunch of whiny brats. “Viewed objectively, the GE/Comcast NBCU transaction is pro-consumer and strongly in the public interest,” spokeswoman Sena Fitzmaurice said. “There is absolutely no evidence that this proposed transaction would produce any of the adverse effects these groups claim the deal would cause.” Plus, they’re a bunch of poop heads, she probably wanted to add.
