Def Jux Is Shutting Down

Def Jux, the seminal indie hip-hop label that’s been home to Aesop Rock, Murs, Cannibal Ox, Cage, Mr. Lif, and RJD2 over a decade in business, is shutting down, according to founder El-P. In a statement released on the label’s website, El-P explains he’ll be focusing full time on producing and recording, and that Def Jux will have a vaguely imagined rebirth, but that “as a traditional record label DEF JUX will effectively be put on hiatus.” In memoriam, here’s Aesop Rock’s “N.Y. Electric” [DefJux]
