Not all Pitchfork darlings double as emergency sleep-aids: Japandroids, a guitar-drums duo from Vancouver, nabbed a coveted “Best New Music” tag for their debut album Post-Nothing back in the spring, and have been slaying audiences nationwide with a potent strand of unleashed joy rock ever since. Their new song “Art Czars” — the first in a planned set of five 7-inch singles culled from the Post-Nothing sessions scheduled for release this year, in lieu of a proper sophomore album — is a monster. Yeah, we have no idea what “here’s your money back / here’s your punk rock back” is supposed to mean, but we sure do love hearing these dudes angrily chant it over some big, gleeful bashings. The perfect soundtrack for the end of your day.
