See R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis

Let there be darkness! When the somewhat lurid graphic novel The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb debuted last October, it was an instant sensation. Now fans have a chance to check out all 207 of the original pen-and-ink drawings laid out along the walls of David Zwirner gallery. The beloved illustrator's work features a surprisingly literal interpretation of the Bible’s opening salvo, which includes plenty of thick-thighed depictions of Eve, a humanoid, limbed snake, and an ark brimming with Crumb-ian beasts. The show will be on view through April 24.
