David Foster Wallace’s epic, endnote-laden novel Infinite Jest has been released as an app for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch with “enriched footnote capability.” In other words, pop-up endnotes! Since this eliminates the need to toggle back and forth through the book to follow Wallace’s tangents, is this the first time an enormous literary work has been made easier to read by putting it on a handheld device?
