Leno on Conan’s TBS Deal: ‘I Knew He’d Land on His Feet’

Jay Leno has finally commented on news of Conan O’Brien’s TBS deal, and it’s predictably smarmy.

“I knew he’d land on his feet,” Leno told Access Hollywood, “It’ll be fun. Everybody will compete. 11 o’clock is now the most exciting place to be… I think he’ll be great. He’s a very funny guy.”

And when pressed about O’Brien’s decision to go with a cable station instead of a network such as Fox, Leno offered a vaguely indecipherable response.

“I didn’t know what to think,” he said. “I mean, well, FOX is network but they have cable too, so, you know, it’s all sort of the same now. Everybody sort of reaches the same thing, but I think it’s exciting. I think he’ll do well.”

Well, if there’s any bright spot here it’s that Leno didn’t try to get any sympathy this time.
