The xx — the soft-spoken British trio whose self-titled debut has, slowly but surely, implanted itself in our brains — have provided the raw material for some unexpectedly great hip-hop experimentation (most notably the Notorious XX, although our favorite has to be the Hood Internet’s “The XX Gon' Give It To Ya.”) Now comes an even stranger permutation: The oo, a Japanese cover band whose entire existence, thus far, consists of two covers from The xx posted on a bare-bones myspace page. Who are these faithful, mysterious artists? And where can we get more of their heavily accented, strangely mesmerizing rock and roll music?
