Rock Singer Ronnie James Dio Passes Away

Heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio, who fronted Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne left the band in 1979, passed away Sunday morning after a battle with stomach cancer. Dio, who at different stages in his career also sang with bands Rainbow, Dio and Heaven and Hell, is credited with inventing the “devil horns” hand gesture. The Times described Dio, who was 67, as “one of the best-loved figures in classic heavy metal.” [ArtsBeat/NYT]
