First Mad Men Image: Not That Helpful

This week’s print edition of EW has the first promotional still from Mad Men’s fast-approaching fourth season (premiering July 25), and if you’re worried about spoilers, don’t be. The photo shows Pete, Don, and Roger seated at a table in a fancy restaurant, staring down an unseen person who is probably one of the first potential new clients of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. The accompanying interview with Matthew Weiner is similarly revealing. (If you’ve not yet seen the third-season finale, though, you’ll probably want to stop reading here.)

Says Weiner:

“The theme of the season is ‘Who am I?’ It’s about stripping away the things that these people think define them. Once they’re taken away, they just may have to look at who they really are.”

Before Betty left for Reno at the end of last season, Don told her he wouldn’t fight her on the divorce. Will he change his mind and ask for custody of Sally and Bobby? Kiernan Shipka’s recent promotion to series regular surely hints at something like that. The answer to this question and others will no doubt be revealed in Mad Men’s next promotional still.

Also:

As for Don and Betty, who was last seen flying to Reno with new lover Henry Francis (Christopher Stanley), Weiner says their failed marriage “will take the next logical form. Their relationship was full of conflict. None of it has been resolved.”
