First Image From Jackman’s Reality-Grounded Robot-Boxing Drama, Real Steel, Everything You’d Hoped For

Last night, USA Today revealed the first incredible image from next year’s hotly anticipated Spielberg-produced robot-boxing drama Real Steel (shooting commenced yesterday), in which Hugh Jackman will play a dad who bonds with his son as they train an automaton to compete in the World Robot Boxing League in 2020. If you know just one thing about Jackman, let it be this: He won’t put up with any of that computer-generated Transformers crap in his robot movie (there will be some CGI in the parts where robots fight each other, but not in Jackman’s scenes). Director Shawn Levy tells USA Today: “There are some things only visual effects can pull off. But when you give an actor a real thing, in this case a real 8-foot-tall machine, to interact with and do dialogue opposite, you get a more grounded reality to the performance.” Click through for the full photo and a preview of Jackman’s totally reality-grounded performance.
