In what may be the all-time strangest disconnect between an award for a performance and the acceptance speech delivered upon receiving the honor, Ken Jeong paid tribute to his wife’s struggle with breast cancer after winning the “Best WTF Moment” prize at last night’s MTV Movie Awards. The actor, who won the prize for that scene in The Hangover in which he emerges nude from a car trunk, started off with a fairly silly speech — “Me and my penis would love to thank MTV!” — before inexplicably meandering into emotional territory entirely at odds with the fact that he was at the MTV Movie Awards, an event with even less gravitas than the People’s Choice Awards. On the one hand, this is very sweet and moving; on the other, evidence of what could be a stunning lack of perspective.
