Considering his male-pattern baldness, unruly facial hair, and general public perception as a bit of a downer, Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie “Prince” Billy) is an unlikely star of screen and song. But that he his! Since co-starring in Kelly Reichardt’s Old Joy in 2006, he’s managed to release seven albums, including last year’s fairly fantastic Beware. And now he’s back in a leading role with the upcoming New Jerusalem, a — you guessed it! — slow and quiet indie, this one about an Irish immigrant (Colm O’Leary) in America after a non-combat tour of Afghanistan and the evangelical (Oldham) who befriends him.
