The Internet has worked itself into a frenzy today at the rumor, which originally surfaced on the site Bleeding Cool, that Jamie Bell — who struck fame playing the titular role in 2000’s Billy Elliot and has since appeared in films like Defiance and King Kong — has been selected as the new Peter Parker in the upcoming Marc Webb reboot of the franchise. Lending credence to the rumor is that Bell was one of the five actors on the shortlist leaked two weeks ago. But then again: Remember when everyone thought Jim from The Office was a lock to play Captain America?
