Or at least that’s what one would assume after seeing the shortlist for the Polaris Music Prize, which features Broken Social Scene — along with the Besnard Lakes, Caribou, Karkwa, Dan Mangan, Owen Pallett, Radio Radio, the Sadies, Shad, and Tegan and Sara — but not the New Pornographers, who did indeed put out a new album this year. Did BSS perhaps nab the designated “sprawling indie-rock collective” spot? And does this mean we finally get a BSS-NP feud? Please?! [Billboard]
