Curious As to How Gorillaz, the World’s Best Animated Band, Does a World Tour?

Damon Albarn’s cartoon pop band Gorillaz announced today that they’ll be kicking off a giant Return to Plastic Beach world tour this fall, which will feature an October 8 date at Madison Square Garden. Hooray! (Also, between this and the Arcade Fire and Phoenix/Dirty Projectors/Wavves shows, MSG is totally the new Bowery Ballroom.) But how, exactly, does a live show from Gorillaz — which is, technically, made up of animated characters — look? Helpfully, the announcement of the world tour comes with a trailer. (Trailers for tours — still not as ridiculous as trailers for blogs!) As you may be aware from reading show reviews or catching other bits of live Gorillaz footage, it’s a fairly straightforward answer: A giant screen projects the shenanigans of Murdoc, 2D, Noodles, and the gang while Albarn and the band and any number of guest stars rock out below. Okay, next question: Which Plastic Beach collaborators can we expect live at MSG?
