MTV Receives Kudos for Representation of Gay Characters

MTV was singled out as television’s current leader in its representation of gay characters, according to GLAAD’s fourth annual Network Responsibility Index. Of MTV’s 207.5 hours of original primetime programming this past season, 42 percent included content “reflecting the lives of gay, bisexual and transgender people.” This high percentage earned the network the first “excellent” rating GLAAD has ever bestowed. The CW was tops among broadcast networks (35 percent), with Fox close behind at 30 percent. CBS was marked with a “failing grade,” coming in at only seven percent. [AP]
