Cathy, the cartoon strip about a neurotic, calorie-counting, historically single lady (who actually got married in 2005), will end its 34-year run this October. In the future, will women who wear unflattering sweaters and occasionally discuss the fat content of ice cream with their cats, still, in moments of self-deprecation, refer to themselves as Cathys? Or will this reference die with the strip?
