The Walking Dead Trailer; or, the Zombies Are Coming

The first, very long trailer for AMC's zombie series The Walking Dead, based on the Robert Kirkman comics and overseen by Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont, has arrived — and it's a doozy. Premiering on Sunday, October 31 (Halloween!), the series stars police officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who, after getting shot, goes to the hospital and wakes up to find the world has been overrun by zombies. Bummer. The creepiness — by which we mean images of super-grotesque zombies — begins in earnest around the two-minute mark and jumps into overdrive at three minutes when the wonderfully jarring "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine No More" by the Walker Brothers starts to play, as packs of zombies, child zombies, and an old-lady zombie who looks like Golem flash by. It's all eerie, gross, potentially nightmare-inducing, and very, very promising.
