Biutiful Selected As Mexico’s Official Entry for Oscars

Mexico has chosen Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Biutiful as its candidate for the foreign-language Oscar category. If the film - which divided critics when it bowed in Cannes - does win an Oscar nomination, it would be the second time Inarritu has represented Mexico in the category (his Amores Perros was nominated in 2000). The selection could also give give Javier Bardem, who took home the best actor prize in Cannes, a boost in the Oscar race. The film will be released December 29 in New York and Los Angeles, before a wider release in early 2011. [Deadline]
