Infidelity-prone protagonists don't have much of a shelf life outside of cable television — just ask the producers of Swingtown (R.I.P.) or writer Kyle Killen, who created the critically acclaimed Fox-ratings sinkhole Lone Star. Killen (who also wrote the so-far-unreleasable Mel Gibson vehicle The Beaver — tough year!) has taken to his blog with a passionate open letter to fans meant to gin up the ratings for the show's second episode, which is barely making it to air:
And Monday night, down by a lot with only seconds on the clock, we'll throw the ball up, an impossibly long arcing pass into a host of defenders who are taller and flashier and stronger and probably more well endowed than all of us, and maybe, just maybe, it's one of those moments where the thing everyone said COULD NOT HAPPEN actually just...does.
Then again, if Killen really wanted to employ a Friday Night Lights analogy, he probably should have sent his missive straight to serial saver DirecTV. [Letter Eleven]
