Sixty Goodfellas Stars Reflect on the Movie Twenty Years Later

GQ's got a terrific megainterview with Ray Liotta, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Lorraine Bracco, and every major Goodfellas player in its October issue, and, stupendously, it's all online. Among the revelations: Virtually every memorable line was improvised, the famously long Copacabana tracking shot was simply Scorsese's attempt to one-up Brian De Palma, the test screenings were disastrous ("One guy wrote FUCK YOU all over the comment card," recalls producer Barbara De Fina), and not only were Tom Cruise and Madonna bandied about for the leads, but John Malkovich was the first choice for Robert De Niro's role before turning it down. Admits Malkovich: "It's hard to explain why you end up in Eragon and not Goodfellas." [GQ]
