Three Captains Quit Deadliest Catch

Three of the stars of Discovery’s reality series Deadliest Catch are leaving the show. Captains Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand — both of whom were sued earlier this month by the network for allegedly not working on a planned spinoff special called Hillstranded — as well as Captain Sig Hansen issued a statement explaining the decision to The Hollywood Reporter; the men said they are “unable” to continue with the series due to the lawsuit, after a year that saw the death of Captain Phil Harris. “We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in Deadliest Catch,” the statement reads. “It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive Catch fans we have met over the years.” Discovery said the network’s own statement on the status of the three captains is forthcoming.
