Die Hard Director John McTiernan Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Filmmaker John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October) was sentenced to a year in prison this morning for lying to authorities about his involvement in the Anthony Pellicano wiretapping scandal, which will put a crimp in his plans to next direct the action thriller Shrapnel. The conviction stems from a 2002 incident where McTiernan hired notorious private investigator Pellicano to wiretap producer Charles Rosen during McTiernan’s remake of Rollerball; the director then lied about the illegal activity during a 2006 FBI investigation. While there are all sorts of actionable offenses related to that misbegotten Rollerball remake, we guess this one will have to do for now. [Deadline]
