Martin Freeman Still Hopes to Join Doomed Hobbit Films He Turned Down

Assuming that the people behind The Hobbit can work out the two-part film's tendency to anger unions, miss start dates, and erupt in flames, actor Martin Freeman (once the first choice to play the lead role of Bilbo Baggins) would really like to be a part of it, even though he's already turned it down. "I did have to say no to it for the second series of [the BBC show] Sherlock," he told Empire. "I did it with a heavy heart, definitely ... If there is any outside possibility [that scheduling issues could be worked out], then that would be great. But I’ve learned not to think too much or hope too much about stuff. It will happen if it happens." [Empire]
