Secretariat Smackdown: Ebert vs. O’Hehir

Is Secretariat a “work of creepy, half-hilarious master-race propaganda almost worthy of Leni Riefenstahl,” as Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir posits in his delightful review? Or is O’Hehir just totally nuts, as Roger Ebert charged last night in this long blog-based takedown? O’Hehir fired back this morning, and the beef was finally squashed in Ebert’s comment section this afternoon, when Ebert conceded, “I didn’t read [O’Hehir’s review] as satire, maybe because I’ve been softened up by so many similar Armond White reviews that he (apparently) writes seriously,” and “I myself have written insane reviews.” (Like this one, probably.) Anyway, glad we could settle all of this before the weekend. [Salon, Roger Ebert/Sun-Times, Salon]
