The 2012 Oscars Will Not Come Early

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided against a plan that would move the date of the 2012 Oscars up a month to late January or early February. They were considering the idea because of concerns that the ceremony, which is scheduled for February 27 next year, currently arrives too late in a long awards season. However, moving up the date had its own complications: A shorter voting period might require an online system, which the Academy has never tried before. [HR]
