Gossip Girl Team Producing Michelle Trachtenberg Show

The Gossip Girl spinoff never happened, but this could be the next best thing: Vulture has confirmed that GG gurus Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz are producing a new CW drama for Michelle Trachtenberg, best known as Gossip Girl’s Georgina Sparks, the occasionally Machiavellian, occasionally Christian bad girl who most recently duped Dan into thinking she’d had his baby. We’ve been fans of Trachtenberg since her Buffy the Vampire Slayer days, and it seems her new role will be more in line with that universe than her current TV residence.

Per sources familiar with the pitch, Trachtenberg is set to play a young criminology student with a dark past and a knack for profiling suspects (sounds sort of Murder, She Wrote meets Profiler, but all CW-style.) The actress apparently came up with the idea for the untitled series herself, and as such, she’ll serve as a producer on the potential hour-long show. Writing duties on the pilot will be handled by Stuart Zicherman, a refugee from J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot who worked on that company’s more sudsy ABC hours (What About Brian, Six Degrees). Zicherman will now team with Savage and Schwartz’s Fake Empire to exec produce the project, under consideration for a fall 2011 debut.
