The Oscars Mulling Move to January 2012

Looks like the rumors were true: According to the L.A. Times, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is exploring a plan that would move the 2012 Oscars to late January or early February to reclaim some of the Oscar thunder that's been stolen by other awards shows. Of course, there are all sorts of complicating factors — including the NFL, which may get in the way of the Gay Super Bowl with the actual Super Bowl — but won't anyone think of the poor performers forced to overdose on praise during a needlessly prolonged awards schedule? If shortening the Oscar gauntlet can keep even one humble character actress from turning into a weary, entitled monster, it will have been worth it. [LAT]
