Mary J. Blige in Talks to Join Rock of Ages Movie

Justice may be blind, but she definitely can sing. Our spies tell us that Mary J. Blige may soon join the cast of Warner Bros.’ upcoming Broadway-adapted eighties glam metal musical Rock of Ages. No deal has been made yet, but insiders tell us Blige “is all in” for playing the role of Justice Charlier, the owner of the Sunset Strip’s exotic dance venue the Venus Club.

We’re also told talks continue with Tom Cruise to star in Rock as well, but while he was originally asked to play the role of Bourbon Room owner Dennis Dupree, he is now said to be more interested in playing villainous rock singer Stacee Jaxx.

Set up at New Line Cinema and co-directedwritten by its original stage writer Chris D’Arienze and directed by Hairspray’s Adam Shankman, Rock of Ages originally debuted in Los Angeles in 2006 before moving Off Broadway in 2008 and hitting Broadway last year.

So will it be more compelling to watch Emjay (nine Grammy awards, eight multi-platinum records, 15 million singles sold) belt out the soul version of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” or see Cruise channeling David Lee Roth with his own version of “Just Like Paradise”? Discuss.
